Creating Space to Talk
a manifesto for everyday wellbeing

By Keith Bunnett and Peter J Spink
Creating Space to Talk is more than a book; it’s an invitation. It challenges the over-medicalisation of ordinary distress, champions grassroots wellbeing, and celebrates the courage of small, everyday actions that rebuild the social fabric.
Whether you’re a professional in community health, a group facilitator, or simply someone who longs for more authentic human contact, this book will leave you inspired to walk, talk, and connect again.
Inside you will discover:

• Why walking calms the body and clears the mind.
• How talking while walking makes difficult conversations easier.
• Simple ways to start your own walk-and-talk habit or group.
• Stories of people who’ve found connection and confidence through shared steps.
Creating Space to Talk reminds us that small acts of connection can change lives—including our own

The foundation of this book

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Keith and Pete founded Space to Talk, a walk-and-talk initiative designed to tackle isolation and create meaningful connections at a time when community bonds were breaking down. The project grew into a sustainable community resource, reflecting their shared belief that everyday human connection is one of the most powerful tools for resilience and recovery.
Creating Space to Talk: a manifesto for everyday wellbeing is the culmination of lived experience, professional practice, and grassroots community support—an invitation to rediscover connection in a disconnected world.
